Highland Presbyterian Play Park Master Plan

The Highland Presbyterian Church Nursery and Weekday School in Louisville, Kentucky embarked on an initiative to renovate its Play Park to provide a natural setting where children can engage in cooperative and self-directed play. BDC worked with the staff and faculty to incorporate a diverse range of play features including a curving tricycle path, a water play space, sand, loose parts, boulders, a playhouse, a wooden bridge, and an art space. The setting provides ample opportunities for children to develop strength, agility, and coordination through climbing, digging, jumping, running, and balancing. All play elements were custom designed and no prefabricated play equipment was used. The renovated play yard encourages and nurtures dramatic play, artistic expression, and tinkering.
