BDC was a subconsultant to JRA Architects for this 750-acre thoroughbred farm in Goshen, Kentucky and provided site design and landscape architectural services. A quintessential Kentucky landscape, Hermitage Farm has become a world-class heritage tourism destination known for its bourbon, thoroughbred horses, and agriculture. All existing structures were preserved. Barn 8 restaurant resides within a horse stable where one can experience ‘in-stall’ dining. The polo barn was converted into a visitors’ center and is a convenient location for passenger pickup and drop-off. There are both formal and informal landscapes throughout the property, along with productive gardens. One can walk along a boardwalk trail and experience an immersive art installation of projected light and sound in a wooded setting. The project won the Kentucky Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award, 2021.
